Mahmood Khan Achakzai Demands Free and Fair Elections in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD:Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai has called for free and fair elections, raising concerns over the absence of lawmakers and the whereabouts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Achakzai said that eight members of the National Assembly were missing and demanded that the government explain the whereabouts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister.

He further complained that the opposition was not even being allowed to speak in the House. “We do not want anything from you; just hold free and fair elections,” he said.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the constitutional responsibilities associated with a meeting between the prime minister and the opposition leader had to be fulfilled.

He clarified that the Prime Minister’s House was not the personal residence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif but an official state residence.

The minister added that Mahmood Khan Achakzai was being dealt with in his capacity as the Leader of the Opposition, a constitutional office, rather than in a personal capacity.
