LPG Prices surge to Rs480 per Kg in Lahore

LAHORE: The rising cost of household fuel has added to the financial burden on inflation-hit residents, as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices in Lahore’s open market have reached Rs480 per kilogram.

Amid shortages and low pressure of piped natural gas, consumers relying on LPG are also being forced to purchase fuel at increasingly high prices.

According to details, the government has fixed the LPG price at Rs279 per kilogram. However, the fuel is reportedly being sold at Rs430 to Rs480 per kilogram in Lahore’s retail market, creating a substantial gap between the official rate and the price charged to consumers.

Residents said they regularly pay their Sui gas bills but are still forced to buy alternative fuel for cooking because of gas shortages and low pressure. They added that LPG prices were also becoming increasingly unaffordable.

Affected consumers said inflation had already put household budgets under severe strain, while the sale of LPG at prices significantly above the official rate was adding to their financial difficulties.

Residents complained that despite paying their gas bills, they had to spend additional money on expensive alternative fuel to meet their daily cooking needs.

They urged the relevant authorities to take effective measures to bring LPG prices in line with the official rate and take action against sellers charging excessive prices.
