Over 50,000 PTI Workers Have Gone to Jail Since 2022: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Roznama): Former minister Asad Umar has alleged that more than 50,000 PTI workers have gone to jail since 2022, among them hundreds who have been sentenced, while an even larger number of people have fled their homes. According to Asad Umar’s X post, speaking on a podcast, he said that the arrests of PTI workers began in 2022 — people were arrested from outside the Judicial Complex, then 2,000 to 3,000 people were arrested from Zaman Park.

The series of arrests started there, and so far more than 50,000 PTI workers have gone to jail, among them hundreds who have been sentenced, while a larger number of PTI workers have fled their homes. People’s homes were repeatedly raided and their businesses destroyed; we have not yet seen the kind of crackdown that is still to come.

PTI workers are very innocent people; they neither give any call nor are they part of any decision-making. They are called and they go and stand there; they do not fire any bullets. Then why are they made to suffer so much? This is a great injustice.

In his tweet, Asad Umar said that no political party has a greater asset than PTI’s workers — selfless people struggling for the betterment of the country, nominated in thousands of false cases merely because of political affiliation. Tear gas, batons, bullets, imprisonment, being forced to live away from their homes, raids on their homes, demolition. Salute to their love for the homeland.
