Doctors’ Community Deeply Disturbed by Tax Burden and a System Imposed Against Ground Realities: PMA

Appointment of Unrelated Persons to Policy and Administrative Posts Unacceptable; Injustice to Technical Sector Must End

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta): A high-level delegation of the cabinet of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan and Quetta Zone, led by PMA Balochistan president Dr Naeem Zarkoon, called on National Party central president, former chief minister of Balochistan and member of the provincial assembly Dr Abdul Malik Baloch.

The delegation included general secretary Dr Zarak Muhammad Shahi, joint secretary Dr Ahmad Abbas, spokesman Dr Abdullah Wardag, finance secretary Dr Tariq Baloch, Quetta Zone president Dr Nadir Achakzai, general secretary Dr Shoaib Baloch and vice-president Dr Kamyar.

The meeting focused mainly on three issues. The delegation briefed Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on the difficulties created for doctors by taxes imposed by the FBR and the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA).

On AI attendance, the position was taken that the PMA is firmly opposed to absenteeism and that every doctor should fulfil his or her duties. However, the present procedure does not match the ground realities of Balochistan, and even doctors who regularly perform their duties are facing difficulties because of it.

The delegation also demanded that, because the health sector is technical in nature, doctors should be appointed to health-related policy-making and all administrative posts.

Dr Abdul Malik Baloch listened carefully to the delegation’s position and assured it that he would play every possible positive role in resolving the issues. The PMA thanked him for the assurance.
