“Cutting Off Water Is a Grave Act With Serious Consequences in Human History,” Says Khawaja Asif
ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that cutting off someone’s water supply is an extremely serious matter and that such actions have produced grave consequences throughout human history.
Speaking in a television programme, Khawaja Asif referred to the incident of Karbala as an example, saying that the denial of water was also a major factor in the events that unfolded there.
Discussing tensions between Pakistan and India, the defence minister said that after India suffered a serious setback in the war, its situation had become extremely difficult. He said India subsequently launched a campaign aimed at restoring its damaged reputation.

According to Khawaja Asif, India wanted to convey the impression that it had taken revenge for the war by stopping Pakistan’s water. He said the Indian government sought to portray to its people that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken action against Pakistan by restricting its water supply.
The defence minister stressed that denying water is considered an extremely serious act in human history. Referring again to Karbala, he said the restriction of water was among the major factors that contributed to the tragic events there.
Khawaja Asif further said that the attempt to use the water issue had once again turned against those who pursued it.
