Protection of citizens is the state’s basic duty; Noorzai murder raises serious questions: Senator Kamran Murtaza

QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: Central president of Jamiat-e-Wukala Forum Pakistan, Senator Kamran Murtaza Advocate, has expressed deep grief over the brutal murder of prominent businessman Salahuddin Noorzai and offered condolences to the bereaved family.

He demanded that the government and relevant institutions immediately take transparent and impartial notice of the incident, arrest those involved and bring them to justice.

In a statement, Murtaza said the killing was extremely tragic and alarming and had raised serious questions about the protection of citizens’ lives and property. The merciless murder of a citizen, he said, was not only a loss for one family but a matter of concern for society as a whole.

He noted that Noorzai’s son went missing a year ago and the father has now been murdered, deepening the family’s suffering. A full investigation and disclosure of the facts, he said, were essential.

Protection of life and property is a fundamental responsibility of the state and the government, Murtaza said. If citizens do not feel safe in their homes, businesses and daily life, the situation raises serious questions about the government’s writ and state responsibility.

He described the murder as not merely the killing of an individual but a major question mark over the overall law-and-order situation. Those involved must be brought within the fold of the law to end public anxiety and insecurity.

The senator demanded an immediate notice of the murder, a transparent investigation and the arrest of the killers and their facilitators on the basis of available evidence. Providing justice to the family, he said, was the state’s duty and the case must not be ignored.

He also called for effective and serious efforts to recover Noorzai’s son, missing for a year, and to keep the family informed of progress.

In a civilised society, citizens cannot be left so insecure, he said, urging the government to take practical measures rather than mere announcements, improve law and order and act against criminals without discrimination.

The business community plays an important role in the national economy, he added, and protecting traders is the government’s responsibility. Fear among businessmen harms both civic life and economic activity.

Delay in justice deepens the wounds of the affected family, he said, calling for the earliest arrest of the accused and completion of the investigation.

Murtaza prayed for forgiveness for the deceased, patience for the family and the early recovery of the missing son.
