Balochistan Minister Questions Security Measures After Delegates Return ‘Insulted’ from Islamabad Conference
QUETTA: Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Ali Umrani has questioned the effectiveness of security measures in Balochistan, asking why the billions of rupees allocated for maintaining law and order have failed to produce visible results.
Addressing the Balochistan Assembly, Umrani said the forces and institutions responsible for restoring peace in the province must explain why residents who pay taxes are not being provided adequate protection.
“Tell us why the people of this province are not being protected and explain the reasons behind the failure to establish peace,” he said.
The provincial minister also criticized the treatment of a Balochistan delegation that recently attended a conference in Islamabad.
“Some 235 dignitaries from Balochistan, including members of the provincial assembly and Senate, participated in a conference in Islamabad. All of them returned with dignity after being subjected to insults there,” Umrani said.
He questioned the purpose of holding such conferences if representatives from Balochistan were not treated with respect and their concerns were not addressed.
Umrani stressed that the provincial government allocates billions of rupees for law and order but said the public had yet to see any meaningful improvement in the security situation.
He called for accountability from the institutions responsible for maintaining peace and urged them to take effective steps to protect the lives and property of the people of Balochistan.
