Federal Government to Fund 70% of Solarization of 27,000 Agricultural Tubewells in Balochistan

Islamabad:The federal government has announced that it will provide 70% of the investment required to solarize 27,000 agricultural tubewells in Balochistan. This decision aims to address the region’s energy challenges while promoting sustainable agricultural practices and renewable energy solutions.

The announcement was made during the first steering committee meeting on the solarization of tubewells in Balochistan, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sardar Abdul Raouf Baloch, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.

Addressing Power Issues in Balochistan

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar discussed the financial impact of unpaid electricity bills and illegal electricity usage in Balochistan. He emphasized the need to tackle these issues while promoting sustainable energy solutions in the region.

The initiative to solarize 27,000 tubewells is part of the government’s broader plan to reduce dependency on conventional electricity and promote the use of clean energy. The federal government’s commitment to covering 70% of the project’s cost reflects its dedication to addressing energy shortages in Balochistan and fostering agricultural productivity through renewable energy sources.

A Step Towards Renewable Energy and Climate Action

This project is seen as a significant step towards utilizing renewable energy and combating the effects of climate change. Solar energy is seen as an effective and sustainable solution, particularly for agriculture, where tubewells are essential for irrigation in Balochistan’s arid climate.

The solarization of these tubewells will not only help reduce the region’s reliance on expensive and polluting fossil fuels but also promote a cleaner, more efficient energy model for agriculture in the province.

Promoting Sustainable Development

Senator Ishaq Dar highlighted that the project is part of the government’s broader vision to promote clean energy solutions and environmental sustainability. The solarization of agricultural tubewells aligns with the country’s commitment to renewable energy and climate action, positioning the initiative as a key development project in Balochistan.
