Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir Departs for Iran to Promote Regional Peace

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has departed for Iran, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, as part of Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit is aimed at advancing Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace and stability. The army chief will focus on supporting efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Pakistan was working to reduce tensions in the region. He said the purpose of Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit was to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the visit is a continuation of Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and security in the region. During the visit, matters of mutual interest and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation will also be discussed.

Earlier, the Iranian government said on X that Field Marshal Asim Munir and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had held a telephone conversation during which they discussed the regional situation and peace and stability in South Asia.

Meanwhile, addressing a ceremony, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was still in a state of war and was facing an economic, military and security challenge. He said Iran remained steadfast in the face of stringent US sanctions and was trying to confront what he described as an unequal war.

Pezeshkian further said the United States had attempted to turn Iran into another Venezuela but had failed. He claimed that Iran’s adversaries wanted to destroy the country but had not succeeded, adding that Iran had emerged as a powerful force through national unity.

The Iranian president expressed hope that the difficulties facing the Iranian people would be overcome soon.
