Sharp Rise in Flour Prices in Quetta Leaves Poor Families Struggling to Put Food on the Table

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat): A sharp increase in flour prices in Quetta in recent days has placed an additional burden on citizens, with low-income families struggling to afford even two meals a day.

Market sources said the price of flour bags had been increasing on a daily basis, putting the staple food beyond the reach of many middle- and low-income households.

Citizens said flour, which was previously affordable for ordinary people, had now become increasingly expensive, making it difficult for families to manage their household budgets.

A daily-wage worker told Daily Qudrat Quetta, “We are people who earn and eat on a daily basis. If flour becomes expensive, what will we feed our children?”

The increase in flour prices has also prompted tandoor owners to raise the prices of bread and naan, further increasing the financial burden on consumers.

Poor families are reportedly facing severe difficulties, with some people allegedly being forced to borrow money to purchase flour.

Public and social circles criticized the government, saying that although authorities had repeatedly announced measures to control prices, effective action was not visible on the ground.

They demanded immediate steps to bring flour prices under control and called for strict action against hoarders and those involved in artificially increasing prices.

They warned that if the situation was not addressed urgently, the difficulties faced by low-income families could become even more serious.
