BNP Voices Concern Over Sorab Incident, Demands Empowered Commission for Transparent Probe; Province-Wide Protests Announced for August 16

QUETTA: Leaders of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) have expressed deep concern and grief over the tragic incident in Sorab, saying the loss of innocent children and women has caused severe distress and fear among the people of Balochistan.

The BNP leaders said people across the province had grown increasingly frustrated by recurring incidents in different areas of Balochistan. They urged the government to move beyond statements and allegations and take practical measures to address the situation.

They said that after every incident, the government was quick to hold “Fitna al-Hindustan” responsible, but the actual facts of such incidents were not brought before the public. The BNP demanded the establishment of an empowered commission to conduct transparent and impartial investigations into the Sorab incident and similar incidents so that the facts could be established and those responsible identified.

The remarks were made during a joint press conference by BNP Central Senior Vice President Advocate Sajid Tareen, Akhtar Hussain Langove, Mir Maqbool Ahmed Lehri, Musa Jan Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Marri and other party leaders.

The leaders demanded immediate compensation and all possible assistance for the families of those killed in the incident. They also called for effective and concrete measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

They said the deaths of innocent children and women were extremely tragic and condemnable, adding that the government appeared to have failed in its responsibility to protect the lives and property of citizens.

The BNP leaders said the people of Balochistan could no longer tolerate continued uncertainty, fear and insecurity. They called on the government to demonstrate seriousness, provide protection to citizens and disclose the causes and motives behind such incidents.

The leaders announced that the Balochistan National Party would hold protest demonstrations across all districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, on August 16 against the Sorab incident.

They also expressed full support for the ongoing sit-in in Khuzdar, saying the party stood with the affected families and would continue to strongly support their demands.:::
