NCCIA Launches Probe into Social Media Defamation Complaint by Sharjeel Memon

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has launched an inquiry into alleged social media defamation targeting Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

According to NCCIA officials, the agency has received a complaint from Memon, which was submitted to the Deputy Director of the agency’s Karachi Zone.

Officials said investigators are working to trace the individuals operating the social media accounts and those involved in creating and disseminating the allegedly defamatory content. The complaint alleges that the posts damaged the reputation and public standing of Sharjeel Memon and his son.

The NCCIA has also written to 10 social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, X and Instagram, seeking information about the individuals responsible for making the posts viral.

The agency has additionally requested data related to accounts from which the allegedly defamatory posts were later deleted, officials said.
