Govt to Use Census and Agriculture Data to Assess Flood Damages

Islamabad: The federal government has decided to utilize population census and agriculture census data to evaluate losses caused by recent floods, sources confirmed on Saturday.

According to officials, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has directed the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to prepare an estimate of nationwide flood damages.

Sources said that population census and agriculture census data will be used to assess human and farming losses, while economic census figures will help identify destruction to infrastructure and businesses.

The agriculture census will provide insights into crop and livestock damages, while advanced software tools will be employed to conduct detailed surveys.

Authorities added that under the recent economic census, buildings across the country were geo-tagged, allowing damage assessments down to district, block, and village levels. This data will also help estimate losses to business centers, schools, colleges, universities, mosques, and other key infrastructure.
