Crime on the Rise in Quetta as Daylight Thefts, Robberies and Mobile Snatchings Alarm Citizens

QUETTA: Citizens in Quetta have expressed serious concern over an alleged increase in theft, robbery and motorcycle and mobile phone snatching incidents across the provincial capital, calling on police authorities to take immediate action and strengthen patrolling.

According to residents, criminal elements are increasingly stopping people in different parts of the city during daylight hours and fleeing after snatching motorcycles, mobile phones and other valuables. The situation, they said, is making it increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to move around the city without fear.

Residents said criminal activities have increased in urban areas, busy roads, streets, markets and some relatively deserted locations. They alleged that armed suspects sometimes hold citizens at gunpoint and threaten them with serious consequences if they resist.

Citizens said motorcycle and mobile phone snatching was no longer limited to nighttime, with people being targeted during the day while travelling for work, business, shopping and other essential activities.

Motorcycle and Mobile Phone Snatching a Major Concern

Motorcycles and mobile phones are essential parts of daily life for residents of Quetta, but citizens say both are increasingly being targeted by criminals.

According to residents, in some incidents armed suspects snatch a motorcycle or mobile phone within moments and flee, leaving victims with little immediate option other than contacting police.

The loss of a motorcycle can cause significant financial difficulties and disrupt a person’s employment and daily transportation. Similarly, the theft of mobile phones not only results in financial loss but can also expose personal data, contact numbers and other sensitive information.

Citizens Demand Effective Police Patrolling

Residents have called for increased police patrols, stronger surveillance on major roads and sensitive locations, and immediate action against elements involved in street crime.

They said areas where repeated motorcycle and mobile phone snatching incidents are reported should receive additional police personnel and enhanced surveillance to prevent criminals from treating residents as easy targets.

Citizens have urged senior police officials to take immediate notice of the deteriorating situation and adopt effective measures to protect lives and property.

They have also called for increased patrols and checkpoints, deployment of plainclothes personnel and closer monitoring of suspicious individuals.

Residents suggested greater use of Safe City cameras and other available technology to identify and arrest suspects involved in criminal activities.

Citizens Call for Recovery of Stolen Property

Public representatives said simply registering cases after incidents was not enough. They stressed that suspects involved in theft and robbery cases must be identified and arrested and that stolen property should be recovered.

Citizens warned that failure to arrest offenders promptly could encourage them to commit further crimes and deepen fear among residents.

They called for effective police surveillance not only at night but also during the day, particularly on major roads and in residential areas where motorcycle and mobile phone snatching is frequently reported.

At the same time, residents urged the public to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel through deserted routes, stay alert while using mobile phones and immediately report suspicious activity to police.

Citizens said protecting lives and property in Quetta, as the provincial capital, was a fundamental responsibility of the police and relevant authorities.

They stressed that improved coordination among police, district administration and other law-enforcement agencies was essential for restoring law and order.

Residents expressed hope that police authorities would respond promptly to their concerns, accelerate action against criminal elements and adopt a comprehensive strategy to prevent theft, robbery and motorcycle and mobile phone snatching.

They reiterated their demand for immediate measures to curb daylight snatching incidents and ensure the safety and security of citizens across Quetta.
