PkMAP Claims Fear Prevails Across Regions, Announces Three-Day Jirga in Quetta

Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has claimed that people across the country, particularly in Pashtun areas, are living in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, alleging that the government’s authority is visible only within the Red Zone.

In a joint statement, PkMAP provincial leaders, including Provincial President Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan, Senior Vice President and Quetta District Secretary Syed Sharaf Agha, Vice Presidents Majid Khan Achakzai and Wardanga Loni, and Provincial General Secretary Kabir Afghan, said the country’s ongoing political and economic crises require democratic and constitutional solutions.

The party thanked its workers and supporters for participating in protest rallies held across southern Pashtun districts on the call of PkMAP Chairman and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai, marking three years since the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The statement alleged that political instability, corruption, inflation, unemployment, industrial closures, declining investment, and worsening law and order had placed severe hardships on the public. It also criticized the February 8 elections, claiming that the public mandate had been undermined and that constitutional amendments had weakened judicial independence and media freedom.

PkMAP further alleged that residents in many districts are confined to their homes due to insecurity, while trade and businesses in Pashtun areas have suffered significant losses. The party claimed that vehicles, trucks, and other properties belonging to local people had been damaged or destroyed during the prevailing unrest.

The party welcomed Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s decision to convene public jirgas in Quetta and Peshawar. According to the statement, a three-day jirga will be held in Quetta from August 30 to September 1, where participants are expected to discuss the challenges facing the Pashtun community and explore collective solutions to the current situation.
