PTI Protest Outside Karachi Press Club Leads to Detentions and Road Closures

Karachi: Police detained several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers during a protest outside the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, as the party staged demonstrations calling for the release of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.

According to ARY News, those taken into custody included PTI leaders from various parts of Karachi. Police also blocked roads leading to the Karachi Press Club by placing shipping containers at key access points, while water cannon vehicles were deployed in the area.

The report said that when police resorted to shelling, PTI supporters temporarily dispersed into nearby streets before regrouping and resuming their protest after police withdrew.

Police officials alleged that some protesters gathered in nearby markets threw stones at police personnel during the confrontation.

The protest disrupted business activity around the Press Club Chowrangi, with shops in surrounding markets closing and commuters facing significant movement restrictions.

According to police, action was taken because the protest and rally were being held without official permission.

The demonstration comes a day after PTI announced the launch of a nationwide movement demanding the release of Imran Khan.
