Adiala Jail Superintendent Denies PTI Claims of Solitary Confinement for Imran Khan
Islamabad: As former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan completed three years in prison, a report submitted by the Superintendent of Adiala Jail has rejected claims that he is being held in solitary confinement or subjected to discriminatory treatment.
According to details shared by journalist Saqib Bashir on X, the jail superintendent’s report states that the practice of solitary confinement has largely been abolished in Pakistan’s prison system and is no longer commonly used. The report says no inmate at Adiala Jail, including Imran Khan, is being held in solitary confinement and that he is serving his sentence in accordance with the law.
The report further states that Imran Khan is being treated in line with prison regulations and is not receiving discriminatory or unequal treatment. However, it notes that he has been provided with certain additional facilities because of his classification as a better-class prisoner. It also says enhanced security measures are in place due to his status as a former prime minister and leader of a political party, which is why other inmates are not allowed access to his residential area.
According to the report, Imran Khan is housed in a seven-cell compound where he is free to move throughout the day and remains inside his cell only during designated nighttime lock-up hours. Jail officials reportedly maintain regular contact with him, while the deputy superintendent meets him routinely and additionally whenever necessary.

The report states that prison doctors examine Imran Khan three times daily, monitoring his blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and other health indicators. Additional medical examinations are conducted whenever required.
It also says a full-time convicted inmate has been assigned to prepare meals according to Imran Khan’s preferred menu. He is said to have access to natural light, fresh air, and exercise from sunrise to sunset, while his privacy is maintained in accordance with prison rules. The report adds that he is free to move within the designated compound during the day and has access to newspapers and books of his choice.
The superintendent further stated that Imran Khan is permitted to meet his wife, Bushra Imran, every Tuesday under jail regulations.
The report also refers to an inspection conducted on February 10, 2026, by lawyer Salman Safdar in his capacity as amicus curiae (friend of the court). According to the report, Safdar observed that Imran Khan’s detention and living conditions were satisfactory and found no indication of solitary confinement.
Concluding its submission to the Supreme Court, the jail authorities argued that the allegations made by petitioner Aleema Khan were based on speculation and lacked factual basis, requesting that the petition be dismissed.
