LPG Sold Far Above Official Rates Across Pakistan, Adding to Public Hardship

Islamabad: After rising petroleum prices, the increasing cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has further intensified the financial burden on consumers across Pakistan, with LPG reportedly being sold well above the official prices set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Although OGRA has fixed the official LPG price at PKR 254 per kilogram, consumers in several cities say the fuel is being sold at significantly higher rates and have urged authorities to enforce the government-approved prices.

In Karachi, LPG is reportedly unavailable at the official rate, with prices ranging between PKR 340 and PKR 370 per kilogram in different parts of the city, creating difficulties for household consumers.

A similar situation has been reported in Lahore, where there is no uniform market price. Retailers are charging varying rates, with LPG selling for as much as PKR 450 per kilogram in some areas, placing an additional financial burden on middle- and low-income families.

In Quetta, despite the official price being around PKR 252 per kilogram, LPG is reportedly being sold in the wholesale market for PKR 380 to PKR 420 per kilogram, affecting both domestic and commercial consumers.

According to market sources, LPG prices have increased by more than PKR 120 per kilogram over the past three months, leading to higher household cooking expenses and increased operating costs for businesses.

Consumers have called on the relevant authorities to ensure strict implementation of OGRA’s official pricing, urging action against profiteering and hoarding so that LPG is made available to the public at government-approved rates.
