Three Killed, Five Injured After Lightning Strike in Tharparkar

Islamabad: At least three people were killed and five others injured after a lightning strike near Islamkot in the Tharparkar district during monsoon weather, police said.

According to police, the victims were returning home after completing work in agricultural fields when they were struck by lightning.

Local residents and rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and shifted the deceased and injured to the Taluka Hospital Islamkot for treatment.

Police said the injured are receiving medical care, with the condition of two victims reported to be critical. Authorities are continuing the process of identifying the deceased and completing legal formalities.

The victims who lost their lives were identified as Taj Muhammad Shah, Sajan Meghwar, and Amrit Meghwar, while the injured include Rajesh Meghwar, Tirath Meghwar, and Umar Otho, among others.

The incident cast a pall of grief over the area, with local residents noting that farmers and laborers working in open fields remain particularly vulnerable to lightning strikes during the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the tragedy and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He also directed the district administration to ensure the five injured victims receive the best possible medical treatment.

Police and the district administration have urged the public to avoid open fields, tall trees, and elevated locations during thunderstorms and severe weather, advising residents to follow safety precautions to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
