Balochistan Cabinet Approves Key Reforms in Education, Policing, Local Government, and Development
QUETTA: The Balochistan Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, on Wednesday approved a series of major decisions aimed at improving public welfare, strengthening law and order, enhancing education, reforming local government, and accelerating development across the province.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, began with prayers for the security personnel and civilians who lost their lives in recent incidents, as well as for patience and strength for their families.
To expand educational opportunities for children of registered workers, the cabinet approved Phase III of the Chief Minister Scholarship Program, under which 300 children of registered laborers will receive admission to a reputable boarding school in Islamabad.
The cabinet also approved upgrading Union Council Mesi Zai and Union Council Mai Zai to the status of municipal committees and sanctioned the establishment of a new municipal committee in Gulistan to strengthen the local government system.
In a major decision aimed at improving public security, the cabinet approved declaring the entire province a police area following the integration of the Levies Force into the police. It also approved the appointment of SP Nabeel Ahmed as the Chief Operating Officer of the Balochistan Safe City Authority and endorsed the formation of a Parole Board on the recommendation of the Home Department.
The cabinet further approved the establishment of a new police station in Marble City, Hub, to enhance security for industrial and commercial activities.
To improve development planning and implementation, the cabinet approved the Balochistan Planning Manual. It also endorsed the Balochistan Child Protection Rules 2026, describing them as a significant step toward strengthening child protection and welfare in the province.
Among other decisions, the cabinet approved the Balochistan Cadet Colleges (Amendment) Act 2026, extended the contract of the Prosecutor General by an additional two years, approved the Balochistan Hybrid Weight Procurement Policy 2026 to promote transparency and efficiency in public procurement, and endorsed the Service Level Agreement for the Quetta Safe City Project.
The cabinet also approved the financing proposal for the Harnai–Sibi Road project, sanctioned the Gawadar Development Authority Service Rules 2024 for employees in Grades 1 to 21, and approved the establishment of a new tehsil and sub-division in Nasirabad district.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said the cabinet’s decisions are intended to improve public services, promote good governance, strengthen law and order, accelerate development projects, and reinforce the province’s administrative framework.
He reaffirmed that the provincial government is fully committed to its public welfare agenda and emphasized that all cabinet decisions would be implemented in a timely and effective manner.
