Nadeem Afzal Chan Accuses Punjab Government of Mismanagement After Heavy Rains
Lahore: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan has strongly criticized the Punjab government, alleging that the recent heavy rains have exposed its administrative failures and left “half of Punjab submerged.”
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Chan questioned the transparency of the provincial government’s sanitation and drainage initiatives. He asked who owns the 11 companies working under the Suthra Punjab project and the 12 companies involved in sewerage operations, urging relevant agencies to investigate their ownership and the basis on which contracts were awarded.
Chan said the PPP does not seek political confrontation but considers it its responsibility to raise issues of public interest. He claimed the government’s handling of the recent rains had raised serious questions about its performance, adding that the party’s objective is to protect the state from further harm rather than engage in political conflict.
He also criticized what he described as excessive government spending, saying public resources should not be used in ways that burden the state.

Commenting on the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chan called for a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. He expressed concern over incidents of violence during the election campaign and demanded action against those responsible. He further alleged that announcements of development projects by federal ministers and their presence at government facilities on polling day could influence the electoral process.
Chan urged the federal administration and state machinery to remain completely neutral during the elections to ensure that voters can exercise their democratic rights freely. He said the PPP believes it can secure victory if the elections are conducted fairly.
The PPP leader also commented on the Pakistan Muslim League-N’s internal political affairs, criticizing the sequence of speeches at a recent party event. He remarked that if he were in Maryam Nawaz’s position, he would have scheduled Nawaz Sharif’s address differently, arguing that the party’s founder should not have been treated “like an ordinary worker.”
