Flash Floods Devastate Northeastern Afghanistan; 20 Dead, Over 100 Missing

KABUL:** Flash floods have caused widespread devastation in northeastern Afghanistan, killing at least 20 people, injuring more than 80, and leaving over 100 others missing, according to local authorities.

Officials said the flooding struck **Nuristan Province** on Monday, with the provincial capital **Parun** among the worst-hit areas. Shops that once lined the riverbank have been washed away, leaving behind mud and debris.

Afghanistan’s disaster management agency said that 20 bodies have been recovered so far, while more than 80 people have been injured. The casualties were reported from Parun and other parts of Nuristan, which borders Pakistan.

Authorities said the floods completely destroyed hotels and dozens of shops, while powerful floodwaters carried massive rocks into the city, causing extensive damage.

The Afghan disaster agency has also issued warnings of further heavy rain and storms in several provinces, urging residents to stay away from rivers, flood-prone areas, and other hazardous locations as rescue efforts continue.
