Petitions Filed Against Maulana Fazlur Rehman Over Remarks on Military; Summoned by Gujranwala Court

Gujranwala: Legal proceedings have been initiated against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over his alleged remarks concerning the Pakistan Army and the country’s martyrs, with a Gujranwala court summoning him to appear on July 28.
According to the petition filed by complainant Manzoor Qadir Bhinder, Maulana Fazlur Rehman allegedly mocked the country’s martyrs and made inappropriate remarks against the Pakistan Armed Forces. The petitioner requested the court to order legal action and the registration of a criminal case against him.
Additional Sessions Judge Faisal Jamil of Gujranwala has issued a summons directing Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear before the court on July 28.
In a separate development, a Lahore sessions court also heard a petition seeking the registration of a case against the JUI-F chief over the same matter. The court sought a response from the Director of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and adjourned the hearing until August 17.
The hearing was conducted by Additional Sessions Judge Malik Latif. Counsel for the petitioner, citizen Muhammad Waqar, argued that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s speech, which circulated on social media, hurt the sentiments of both the petitioner and the general public.
The petition further alleged that the JUI-F leader made objectionable remarks about the country’s martyrs during a public gathering, causing emotional distress to their families. The petitioner requested the court to direct the authorities to register a criminal case against him.
The matter is now pending before the respective courts for further proceedings.
