Shah Abdul Latif University to Cancel Over 1,200 Suspected LLB Degrees in Anti-Corruption Drive

Islamabad: Shah Abdul Latif University has decided to cancel more than 1,200 suspected LLB degrees issued through its affiliated law colleges as part of a major accountability and institutional reform campaign aimed at eliminating corruption and ensuring transparency.

According to reports, the university will issue a public notice formally initiating the cancellation process, which is said to involve degrees linked to several prominent legal professionals.

The move is being described as a landmark step in the university’s history, reflecting its commitment to the rule of law, accountability, and reforms in the higher education system.

Sources said that under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, a special team of senior professors and university officials has spent the past two years reviewing records and implementing governance reforms. Following a comprehensive audit, fulfillment of legal requirements, and approval by the university’s 92nd Syndicate meeting, the action has entered its final stage.

An investigative committee examined and verified records from the university and its affiliated law colleges, identifying numerous questionable entries. Several affiliated colleges reportedly disowned some of the disputed records during the investigation.

The current action marks the third phase of the university’s reform campaign. In the first phase, First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against 128 individuals over alleged fake records. In the second phase, departmental and legal proceedings were initiated against more than eight officials, who were suspended and barred from entering the university.

As part of the third phase, the university will issue a final public notice giving individuals associated with the more than 1,200 suspected LLB records 15 days to submit authentic documentary evidence supporting the validity of their degrees. Those who fail to provide satisfactory proof within the deadline will have their degrees and examination results cancelled.

The university said the public notice is intended to ensure all affected individuals are given the right to be heard in accordance with legal and procedural requirements before any final action is taken.

Sources added that the appointment of Dr. Yousuf Khushk on merit by the Sindh Search Committee and the reforms introduced under his leadership played a key role in exposing the alleged fake degree scandal and restoring the university’s credibility.
