Rauf Klasra Says Alleged Foreign Women Case Has Damaged Pakistan’s International Reputation

LAHORE: Senior journalist and political analyst Rauf Klasra has said the alleged case involving foreign women in Lahore could have long-term consequences for Pakistan’s international image, arguing that the controversy extends beyond an ordinary criminal investigation.

In his commentary, Klasra said that regardless of who is ultimately found responsible, public perception is likely to associate the case with the family of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar because they are currently in government. He argued that attempts to portray the matter as a private cryptocurrency or business dispute would not be enough to address the public’s concerns.

Klasra said the allegations are particularly sensitive because they reportedly involve a relative of a senior government official. He argued that the conduct of family members of those in power can have wider implications for a country’s reputation and that political leaders should recognize the responsibilities that accompany public office.

Drawing comparisons with international examples, Klasra referred to the controversies surrounding Hunter Biden, the son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, to illustrate how the actions of politicians’ family members can affect public perception.

He also cited an anecdote from the autobiography Beyond the Lines by Kuldeep Nayar, recounting a conversation with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. According to Klasra, Thatcher had said she preferred her children to live abroad rather than risk becoming involved in business activities that could create political controversy while she was in office.

Concluding his analysis, Klasra argued that holding public office requires personal sacrifice and responsibility. He claimed that the alleged actions attributed to a relative of the deputy prime minister have harmed both the reputation of the Dar family and Pakistan’s international standing.

The comments above reflect the personal analysis and opinions of Rauf Klasra. The allegations related to the Lahore case remain under investigation, and no court has established criminal liability against those accused.
