Pakistani Freelancers Earn Record $1.6 Billion in 11 Months, Industry Leader Says

Lahore:Pakistani freelancers have achieved a record milestone by earning more than **$1.6 billion** in foreign exchange during the first **11 months** of the fiscal year, marking the highest annual income ever generated by the country’s freelance and IT-enabled services sector.
Speaking to ARY News, **Freelancers Association of Pakistan** Chairman **Ibrahim Amin** said Pakistani freelancers continue to play a leading role in bringing valuable foreign exchange into the country.
He said freelance earnings have increased significantly over the past four years, rising from approximately **$400 million in 2022** to **$1.6 billion in 2026**, reflecting the rapid growth of Pakistan’s digital economy.
Amin noted that young people from remote and underdeveloped areas are learning digital skills and providing services to international clients despite facing challenges such as limited resources, electricity shortages, and unreliable internet connectivity.
He added that more than **60 percent** of Pakistan’s population is made up of young people, and with greater government support and private-sector investment in training and skill development, the country could potentially generate up to **$10 billion annually** through freelancing.
According to Amin, expanding opportunities for freelance professionals would not only increase foreign exchange earnings but also help reduce unemployment and strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
