Ahsan Iqbal Clarifies Orange Line Train Was Funded by Punjab Government, Not Federal Government

ISLAMABAD, June 21, 2026 — Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Professor Ahsan Iqbal has clarified that the Orange Line Metro Train project in Lahore was financed entirely by the Punjab government and not by the federal government.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Sunday, Ahsan Iqbal stated that the Orange Line project was not developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He emphasized that the Punjab government completed the project using its own financial resources.
“The federal government did not provide a single rupee for the Orange Line project,” he told lawmakers during the assembly session.
The minister’s remarks came while addressing discussions related to development projects and public sector investments. He reiterated that the Lahore Orange Line was a provincial initiative funded independently by the Punjab government.
