Silence Over “Abduction” of Sohail Afridi, Babar Saleem Swati and Junaid Akbar Unacceptable: Shafi Jan

PESHAWAR (Quadrat Daily) — Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister and PTI leader Shafi Jan has said that imposing governor’s rule and a state of emergency constituted a grave violation of the public mandate, and that the aim of the rejected group is not to eliminate terrorism but to target PTI. In a statement on X, Shafi Jan said silence over the “abduction” of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and provincial president Junaid Akbar is unacceptable, and their whereabouts and safety must be clarified immediately.
He said governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have caused a serious violation of the public mandate and democratic rights, and that the people’s vote has been trampled by force.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is no one’s estate; it is the people’s province, and a robbery of its mandate through force is unacceptable in any case,” he said.
He said a group rejected by the people has been imposed today through force, and its aim is not to end terrorism but to target Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He said reports of a raid or action at the home of Murad Saeed are extremely worrying, and that harassing a political leader or his family on the basis of dissent is unacceptable in any case. He called for respect for the sanctity of homes, citizens’ fundamental rights and political freedoms, saying political revenge must stop now.
Shafi Jan said the disappearance of elected representatives, PTI organizational colleagues and IDF doctors is a serious question mark over the rule of law, and an immediate clarification must be given regarding their whereabouts and safety.
