Balochistan Government Withdraws Fuel Conservation and Austerity Measures

Quetta: The Government of Balochistan has decided to immediately withdraw the fuel conservation and additional austerity measures that had been enforced across the province.

A formal notification to this effect has been issued by Syed Faisal Ahmed, Secretary of the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD).

According to the notification, all austerity restrictions imposed since March 10, 2026, have been lifted with immediate effect. However, previously notified business operating hours will remain in force throughout the province.

Under the existing regulations, markets, bazaars, and shopping malls will continue to close at 9:00 p.m., while marriage halls and marquees will be allowed to operate until 10:00 p.m.

Restaurants, cafes, and food outlets may remain open until 11:00 p.m., while fruit and vegetable vendors, grocery stores, and general retail food shops have also been permitted to conduct business until 11:00 p.m.

The notification further states that pharmacies, hospitals, laboratories, and clinics will remain exempt from operating-hour restrictions. Bakeries, traditional tandoors, milk shops, and dairy outlets have also been granted exemptions.

In addition, petrol pumps, CNG stations, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will not be subject to business-hour limitations. Sports facilities, gyms, sports courts, and padel courts have likewise been exempted from the restrictions.

The government has also provided a complete exemption to information technology (IT) companies and call centers, allowing them to operate without any time limitations.

According to the Balochistan government, the decision to end the austerity and fuel conservation measures was taken after reviewing the prevailing situation. Authorities emphasized, however, that directives aimed at promoting efficient energy consumption and compliance with designated business hours will continue to be enforced.
