Balochistan MPA Questions Federal Role in Gwadar, Says Focus Remains on Punjab

Quetta: Member of the Balochistan Assembly Maulvi Noorullah, while participating in the budget debate, criticized what he described as unequal treatment of Balochistan and questioned proposals regarding federal control over Gwadar.

Addressing the assembly, Noorullah said that corruption and injustice were contributing to a growing sense of deprivation among people. He argued that the federal government’s attention remained focused on Punjab rather than Balochistan.

Referring to discussions about Gwadar, he asked, “If Gwadar is being handed over to the federal government, will Lahore also be handed over to the Baloch people?” The remark was made to emphasize concerns over provincial autonomy and control of local resources.

The lawmaker further complained that issues relating to Balochistan were not being adequately heard in the assembly and alleged that public gatherings and concerns raised by citizens were often ignored.

He also questioned the role of certain institutions and decision-making processes, asking who had brought “Form 47” into the political system and why certain bodies were allegedly being given preference despite the presence of elected public representatives.

Noorullah urged authorities to pay greater attention to the concerns of Balochistan and ensure that the voices of the province’s elected representatives are heard in policymaking and governance matters.
