Public Transport Fares Remain Unchanged in Balochistan Despite Fuel Price Reduction

Quetta: Despite a significant decrease in petroleum product prices across Pakistan, public transport fares in Quetta and across Balochistan have not been reduced, causing concern and frustration among citizens.

According to details, even after a sharp reduction of nearly Rs80 per litre in diesel prices by the federal government, bus and coach services operating from Quetta to Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Multan have continued charging previous high fares without any revision.

Similarly, fares on interprovincial routes such as Quetta to Jacobabad, Nawabshah, and Hyderabad have also remained unchanged, with passengers still being charged old rates.

Local transport services within Quetta and nearby areas, including routes to Spezand, Jafarabad, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Ziarat, and Pishin, have also not reduced fares. Private transport operators, including shared vehicles and taxis, are reportedly continuing to charge the same fares as before.

Citizens have urged the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary and district administration to take immediate action against transport operators for what they describe as unfair practices. They demanded the issuance of a revised fare list and strict legal action against those overcharging passengers in light of reduced fuel prices.
