Criticism of Israeli Government or Netanyahu Is Not Antisemitism, Says JD Vance, Rejects Pro-Israel Narrative

Islamabad: U.S. Vice President JD Vance has rejected the narrative promoted by some pro-Israel groups, stating that criticism of the Israeli government or Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot be equated with antisemitism.

In an interview, the U.S. Vice President distanced himself from the traditional hardline pro-Israel stance, clarifying that not every criticism of Israel or its leadership should be labeled as antisemitic. He noted that this distinction is rarely made publicly by senior Republican figures.

Vance said that pro-Israel circles often mistakenly conflate criticism of the Israeli government with antisemitism, adding that opposition to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s policies is a political issue, not a religious or ethnic one.

He further argued that some groups fail to differentiate between U.S. national interests and Israeli interests, despite both being separate matters.

Responding to a question about Charlie Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump who was killed in September 2025, Vance said Kirk did not support antisemitism but was concerned about growing Israeli influence in American politics.

The remarks are being seen as a notable shift in the Vice President’s position, as he had previously avoided openly challenging pro-Israel lobbying narratives. Analysts suggest his evolving stance reflects changing political dynamics following recent conflicts involving Iran, Gaza, and Lebanon.
