JD Vance Calls Islamabad Memorandum a Victory for U.S., Says Iran’s Weapons Capability Curtailed

ISLAMABAD: U.S. Vice President JD Vance has described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran as a major diplomatic achievement for Washington, stating that the agreement serves American interests and enhances regional security.
Speaking to the media, Vance said the agreement represents a victory for the United States and its people, emphasizing that it includes commitments aimed at preventing Iran from developing weapons or missile systems that could pose a threat to global security.
He stated that Iran’s ability to pursue nuclear weapons had been effectively neutralized and that the memorandum contains provisions ensuring Tehran will not develop dangerous weapons or missile capabilities. According to Vance, the agreement creates a framework under which Iran’s future economic relief will depend on its conduct and compliance with the terms of the deal.
The U.S. vice president noted that Washington would closely monitor Iran’s behavior, including its relations with countries across the Middle East. He added that sanctions relief could gradually be expanded if Iran demonstrates positive conduct and fulfills its commitments under the agreement.
Vance further stressed that the Islamabad Memorandum is beneficial to U.S. strategic interests and contributes to regional stability. He also expressed hope that both Israel and Hezbollah would respect existing agreements and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
Addressing media coverage of the deal, Vance said some reports had misrepresented certain provisions of the agreement. He credited President Donald Trump with pursuing policies that compelled Iran to change its approach, arguing that the resulting accord is a positive development for the wider region.
The remarks come amid ongoing international attention on the U.S.-Iran understanding and its potential impact on Middle Eastern security, diplomacy, and economic relations.
