Pakistan’s Defence Industry Becomes Source of Foreign Exchange, Attracts Interest in Fighter Jets

Islamabad: Pakistan’s defence industry has emerged as a significant source of foreign exchange earnings, with growing international interest in its military equipment, including fighter jets.
Speaking during the budget speech, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the success of “Operation Bunyān-um-Marsoos” in May 2025 marked a bright chapter in the country’s history. He added that Pakistan’s defence capabilities are now widely acknowledged across the world.
The minister stated that several countries have shown interest in purchasing fighter jets used for the country’s aerial defence, and discussions in this regard are reportedly underway.
He said Pakistan has gained recognition as a country whose voice is heard internationally, adding that the armed forces delivered a strong response to aggression, which he claimed compelled the adversary to seek peace within hours.
Aurangzeb further said that Pakistan’s global standing improved significantly following its response to what he described as Indian aggression.
Referring to regional partnerships, the finance minister also mentioned the defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, calling it a reflection of strong brotherly relations between the two countries. He said the agreement has further strengthened defence cooperation between the two sides.
The government believes that recent developments in the defence sector are contributing not only to national security but also to economic gains through increased international interest and potential exports.
