Poor Sanitation Situation in Quetta Alarming, Restoration of Local Bodies Essential: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party

Quetta (Kudrat Daily) — The district Quetta chapter of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party has expressed serious concern over the worsening sanitation conditions in the city, terming the situation alarming and unfortunate.

In its statement, the party said that the project launched in the name of cleanliness has fallen victim to mismanagement and alleged corruption, while the concerned sub-administration is misleading the public by presenting a distorted picture of the situation.

It added that garbage heaps have accumulated in most areas, streets, and residential neighborhoods of Quetta, while no effective sanitation system is visible. The statement further alleged that only central roads and VIP areas are being cleaned for photo sessions and showpiece activities, while ordinary citizens are facing severe risks of pollution, foul smell, and diseases.

The party stated that until the Metropolitan Corporation Quetta is made fully functional and local government institutions are restored with complete powers and responsibilities, the situation of sanitation and civic services will continue to deteriorate. It emphasized that only elected representatives, who are directly aware of local issues, can effectively resolve public problems.

It further said that private projects and temporary arrangements have failed to meet public expectations, and those obstructing the establishment of local government institutions are responsible for the current crisis and public hardship.

The statement also criticized the postponement of local government elections just two days before polling, calling it a serious blow to the democratic, constitutional, and fundamental rights of the people of Quetta. It added that the city has previously been deprived of a local government system for years, during which billions of rupees allocated for development and civic services were allegedly misused.

The party demanded immediate action to address the sanitation crisis, urgent removal of garbage from across the city, improvement and transparency in the sanitation system, and activation of the Metropolitan Corporation and all local bodies so that elected representatives can play their due role.

It concluded that the people of Quetta can no longer bear negligence, cosmetic measures, and failed policies, and stressed that providing a clean, healthy, and dignified environment is the fundamental responsibility of the government and relevant authorities.
