Hafiz Naeem Urges Accountability, Says PPP “System” Extended to Gilgit-Baltistan; Warns of Protest Over Budget

KARACHI: Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has alleged that the political “system” of Pakistan Peoples Party has now been extended to Gilgit-Baltistan, claiming that governance failures are worsening public hardships across the country.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that the federal budget is being presented in just two days while instead of providing relief, the government is increasing difficulties for the public. He argued that key development projects related to water, employment, and infrastructure have not been completed.
He further claimed that political parties were collectively benefiting from a system of governance that prioritizes personal gains over public welfare, using strong criticism of both PPP and other major political forces.
Hafiz Naeem also accused the government of imposing additional taxes in the upcoming budget, stating that new levies would further burden citizens. He alleged that powerful business groups were influencing decisions related to sugar exports and broader economic policies.
He highlighted issues related to electricity pricing, saying consumers are forced to pay inflated bills even for unused electricity, and demanded immediate reductions in electricity, gas, and fuel prices to stabilize the economy.
Warning of possible protests, he said that if the upcoming budget fails to provide relief, a nationwide strike could be considered.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan leader also raised concerns over Karachi’s water crisis, stating that the city continues to suffer shortages and key projects such as K-IV remain incomplete. He criticized both federal and provincial authorities for failing to resolve the issue.
He also referred to Pakistani citizens allegedly held hostage by pirates, urging the government and the Foreign Ministry to take immediate action for their safe recovery, calling the situation a matter of life and death.
