Severe Heatwave Continues Across Pakistan as Sibi Hits 49°C, Met Office Warns of Rising Temperatures in Karachi

KARACHI: A severe heatwave continues to grip Karachi and most parts of Pakistan, with the Meteorological Department warning that no significant relief in temperature is expected in the coming days.

According to the latest forecast, hot and dry weather conditions will persist across the country, with several cities recording temperatures well above seasonal averages.

The highest temperature recorded in the country yesterday was in Sibi, where the mercury surged to 49°C. Other extreme readings included 48°C in Dadu and Jacobabad, 47°C in Turbat and Mohenjo Daro, 46°C in Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Dera Ghazi Khan, while Multan and Bahawalpur recorded 45°C.

In major cities, Lahore experienced a maximum temperature of 43°C, Peshawar 42°C, Islamabad and Muzaffarabad 40°C, while Karachi and Quetta recorded 37°C. Gilgit remained relatively cooler at 34°C.

The Met Office stated that the ongoing heatwave is likely to persist until at least June 12, with particularly intense heat expected in most districts of Sindh. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight and take precautionary measures.

For Karachi specifically, authorities warned that temperatures may rise further in the coming days, with the mercury potentially reaching up to 42°C by June 12.

Today’s maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to remain around 39°C, with the heat index making it feel even hotter due to humidity and atmospheric conditions.

Officials have urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take necessary precautions as the severe weather conditions continue.
