Pakistan’s Textile Exports Rise 10.6% in May Despite Regional Uncertainty

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile exports continued to show positive momentum despite regional uncertainty, recording significant growth in May 2026, according to data released by the country’s statistical authorities.

Textile exports increased by 10.61 percent on a month-on-month basis and by 8.23 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching $1.657 billion in May 2026.

The latest figures show a notable improvement from $1.498 billion recorded in April 2026 and $1.53 billion in May 2025.

The growth reflects continued resilience in Pakistan’s largest export-oriented sector, which remains a key contributor to foreign exchange earnings and industrial activity.

However, despite the monthly and annual gains in May, cumulative textile export performance during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year remained under pressure. Total textile exports during the period stood at $27.90 billion, representing a decline of 5.61 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Industry observers say the recent increase in exports is an encouraging sign for the sector, although challenges including global demand fluctuations, production costs, and regional economic uncertainty continue to affect overall export performance.

The textile sector accounts for a major share of Pakistan’s exports and plays a crucial role in employment generation, industrial growth, and the country’s balance of payments.
