KP Chief Minister Reacts Strongly to Arrest of Junaid Akbar and Others in Gilgit, Announces Major Move

Islamabad: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Afridi has strongly condemned the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial president and Member of the National Assembly Junaid Akbar Khan, along with other parliamentarians, in Gilgit-Baltistan and announced that he would personally travel to Gilgit over the matter.
The chief minister said that if the detained parliamentarians were not released soon, he would visit Gilgit-Baltistan himself to question the “puppet government” and those allegedly involved in forming a “fake government” there over the treatment of elected representatives.
Muhammad Suhail Afridi stated that such actions were harming Pakistan and increasing hatred and divisions within society. He said those responsible for protecting the public mandate were instead repeatedly undermining the democratic will of the people.
He further said that denying a level playing field in elections and attempting to sideline PTI founder عمران خان through force and oppression was damaging the democratic system.
The KP chief minister also criticized the Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister for not responding to his calls, describing the behavior as undemocratic and non-political.
Afridi asserted that Gilgit-Baltistan would not be allowed to become a “no-go area,” adding that the people of the region are honorable and hospitable. He claimed that the public of Gilgit-Baltistan would respond to the alleged mistreatment of their guests through their votes in the upcoming elections.
