Power Consumers Get Relief as Government Avoids Fuel Adjustment Burden in June

Islamabad: The Power Division has announced major relief for electricity consumers, stating that there will be no increase in electricity prices in June due to timely and effective government measures.

In an official statement, the Power Division spokesperson said consumers have been protected from a monthly fuel adjustment burden of Rs5 to Rs6 per unit. Despite the suspension of LNG supplies and the use of expensive furnace oil for power generation, no additional financial burden will be passed on to consumers.

According to the statement, electricity users were saved from a possible additional burden of Rs38 billion after the monthly fuel adjustment was capped at an increase of Rs1.73 per unit.

The spokesperson credited the relief to continuity in government policies, increased electricity demand, and a special package introduced to support consumers. Additional local gas supplies and increased generation from imported coal plants also helped reduce load management issues.

The Power Division further stated that electricity consumers received refunds amounting to Rs65 billion during the first quarter. Due to quarterly adjustments, consumers were given relief of Rs1.93 per unit, which completely offset the impact of monthly fuel adjustments and provided additional financial relief despite challenging conditions.

The spokesperson added that no increase is expected in the reference tariff next month and consumers may instead receive further relief of around 20 paisas per unit.
