Blue Passport for Parliamentarians’ Children Should Not Exist, Says Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD – Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that children of parliamentarians should not be issued blue passports, arguing that such privileges should not exist in Pakistan.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), he said that extending special passports or privileges to the families of judges, generals, and politicians would be “destructive” and could lead to the formation of a new “elite passport club.”

He warned that if influential groups are allowed to secure special travel documents for their families, it would further undermine the value and credibility of ordinary Pakistani passports. According to him, this would deepen inequality and create a class of privileged citizens disconnected from the public.

Fawad Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan’s core problem is the persistence of elite-driven systems, and instead of expanding benefits to this group, the focus should be on dismantling elite privilege structures to ensure equality for all citizens.
