PPP Parliamentary Leader Slams Balochistan Government Over Security Situation in Assembly

Quetta: Mir Sadiq Umrani strongly criticized the security situation in Balochistan during a speech in the provincial assembly, claiming that even ministers and lawmakers are unable to travel safely in the province.

Addressing the assembly session, the Pakistan Peoples Party parliamentary leader said lawmakers, including Nawabzada Tariq Magsi, have been receiving extortion slips and threats, making road travel to their constituencies nearly impossible.

Umrani said he had repeatedly approached his party leadership, the chief minister, and the provincial interior minister regarding the worsening law and order situation, but no effective action had been taken.

“If the government cannot provide security even to its own ministers, then there is no point in sitting in this assembly,” he remarked, adding that he even felt like boycotting the house over the situation.

He criticized the administration and state institutions, saying billions of rupees are being spent on maintaining peace and order, yet the province continues to face insecurity. He alleged that police personnel were largely absent from the field, while Frontier Corps personnel return to camps in the evening, leaving security responsibilities mainly to the army.

The PPP leader also accused the provincial interior minister of not taking the matter seriously enough and claimed his concerns were not being properly heard.

Highlighting conditions in his region, Umrani warned of the possibility of tribal clashes and said many lawmakers cannot travel to their hometowns by road. Instead, they are forced to travel via Karachi and Sukkur to reach their areas safely.

He further stated that three major highways connecting Khuzdar, Zhob, and Nasirabad had been blocked, severely affecting movement across the province.

Calling for immediate efforts to restore peace, Umrani said tribal elders would convene a jirga to help end the conflict and prevent further escalation of violence in the province.
