Pakistan’s IT Exports Surge as Freelancers Set New Records

Islamabad: Pakistan has recorded a significant increase in information technology exports and remittances, with both the IT sector and freelancers achieving notable growth during the current fiscal year.
During the National Assembly’s question hour session, the Ministry of IT informed lawmakers that remittances from ICT services increased by 19.7 percent.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that Pakistan’s IT exports reached $3.38 billion during fiscal year 2025-26, compared to $2.8 billion in the previous fiscal year 2024-25.
According to the Ministry of IT, Pakistani freelancers also posted impressive growth in exports, which increased from $567 million to $856 million.
Official figures showed that freelance IT exports registered a 51 percent increase, a development being described as a major achievement for Pakistan’s digital economy and technology sector.
The National Assembly session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah. During the session, prayers were offered for the late mother of former Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Abdul Qadir Patel raised concerns that 10 Pakistani nationals remain in the custody of pirates in Somalia, alleging that the government had abandoned them.
Responding to the concerns, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar assured the House that the government would not leave stranded Pakistanis helpless and efforts would continue for their safe recovery.
