NDMA Issues Fresh Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Hail Expected in Several Regions of Pakistan

Islamabad (Khabar Agency) – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a new alert warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hailstorms in upper and central parts of Pakistan over the next 12 to 24 hours.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the NDMA stated that the prevailing weather conditions align with the seasonal outlook earlier shared by the National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) months in advance.
According to the alert, several districts of Punjab, including Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Multan, and Sargodha, are expected to experience strong winds accompanied by rain, while isolated areas may also witness hailstorms.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall is forecast for multiple districts including Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Dera Ismail Khan.
The weather system is also likely to impact the northern regions of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where rain is expected in areas such as Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Mirpur.
Authorities have also expressed concern over rising temperatures in upper mountainous regions, warning that accelerated glacier melting could trigger glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), flash floods, and landslides.
Citizens have been advised to avoid approaching glacial lakes and to stay away from steep and hazardous slopes.
The NDMA further warned that strong winds and potential hailstorms may damage weak structures, solar panels, and parked vehicles. People have been urged to remain indoors or seek safe shelter during severe weather conditions.
Tourists and local travelers in hilly regions have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel due to the risk of road blockages caused by landslides.
The authority has directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure emergency preparedness, while also urging citizens to stay updated through official NDMA communication channels and mobile applications.
