Maryam Nawaz Issues Strict Orders Ahead of Monsoon Rains and Flood Risks

Islamabad: Maryam Nawaz has issued strict directives to ensure full preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season and potential flooding, emphasizing zero tolerance for delays in development and public service delivery.
The instructions were given during two high-level meetings chaired by the chief minister to review ongoing development projects, urban facilities, and monsoon preparedness across Punjab.
Officials briefed the meeting that nearly 40% of water drainage work has been completed in 51 cities, while modern machinery is set to be provided to 52 cities by the end of June. These measures aim to prevent urban flooding and water accumulation during heavy rains.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that the pace of development must not slow down and that visible improvements should be ensured in every project. She appreciated drainage work in Gujrat and directed other districts to match the same speed and efficiency.
Under the Lahore Development Plan, road upgrades are ongoing in multiple areas, while the Ichhra Bazaar improvement project has reached 85% completion. Authorities expressed confidence that the remaining work will be completed soon to enhance public facilities.
In a separate session held via video link, deputy commissioners from across the province were instructed to prepare comprehensive and effective plans for the upcoming year. The chief minister made it clear that practical results, not just paperwork, would be accepted.
She further directed authorities to ensure complete readiness before the monsoon season, warning of strict action in case of negligence. Special emphasis was also placed on improving sanitation arrangements during Eid to provide a cleaner environment for citizens.
