UAE Says Trust with Iran at “Historic Low” After Recent Conflict

Dubai — The United Arab Emirates has described rebuilding trust with Iran as a long and difficult process following the recent conflict, warning that relations have deteriorated to unprecedented levels.

According to international media reports, Anwar Gargash, advisor to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said that trust between the two countries has been severely damaged. Speaking at the World Policy Conference in France, he noted that repeated attacks during the conflict have made any quick restoration of confidence unlikely.

Gargash stated that “you cannot launch 2,800 missiles and drones at a country and then talk about trust,” emphasizing that such damage cannot be repaired overnight. He added that approximately 89 percent of the attacks were aimed at civilians, civilian infrastructure, and energy systems.

He further said that these actions send a message to Gulf nations that they are not being considered in Iran’s strategic calculations, a perception that could have long-term consequences.

Gargash concluded that Iran will now be viewed as a strategic threat in the region, particularly by the UAE and other Gulf countries, and that rebuilding trust could take years.
