Government of Balochistan to Scrutinize Unregistered Seminaries Over Foreign Funding Concerns

Quetta: The Government of Balochistan has decided to intensify scrutiny and streamline the registration process of unregistered religious seminaries following reports of alleged foreign funding and the presence of foreign individuals.
According to official data, around 300 seminaries in the province have been identified as unregistered, with authorities initiating investigations into suspected irregular activities. Overall, approximately 2,600 seminaries are operating across Balochistan, of which about 2,200 are already registered, while efforts are underway to bring the remaining institutions into the legal framework.
Sources said that to ensure transparency and avoid misunderstandings, the government plans to take key religious stakeholders into confidence, including leaders from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and other prominent clerics.
The government aims to register all seminaries under the Balochistan Charities Act 2019 to regulate their activities and establish clear oversight. Officials believe that completing the registration process will not only strengthen the legal status of these institutions but also help prevent any unlawful activities.
Authorities emphasized that the process will move forward through consultation and coordination with religious leadership to ensure effective implementation and compliance.
