Calorie Labels on Menus May Help People with Binge Eating Disorder, Study Finds

Islamabad (Khyber Desk) – A recent survey suggests that displaying calorie information on restaurant menus may assist individuals suffering from Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and could support their recovery process.
According to the findings, which reference policies implemented in England since 2022, restaurants, takeaways, and cafés with more than 250 employees are required to display calorie counts on their menus as part of efforts to combat obesity and promote healthier eating habits.
While the initiative encourages healthier food choices among the general public, evidence indicates that it may also influence people with eating disorders to opt for lower-calorie meals.
However, researchers from University College London (UCL) and King’s College London found that this measure could be particularly beneficial for individuals with Binge Eating Disorder.
Dr. Nora Trompeter from UCL’s Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health stated that people with eating disorders have mixed reactions to calorie labels, but those with binge eating disorder often find them helpful in managing their condition.
