Gwadar Grand Jirga Calls for Unity to Promote Peace and Development in Balochistan

Gwadar (Kudrat Daily) – A grand jirga held in Gwadar emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the government, security institutions, and the public to ensure lasting peace, stability, and development in Balochistan.
The gathering was attended by Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the Corps Commander Quetta, and the GOC Gwadar, along with tribal elders, elected representatives, administrative officials, members of the business community, fishermen, and civil society.
During the jirga, participants discussed the overall situation in the province, particularly focusing on development in Gwadar and the Makran division. Governor Mandokhail highlighted that Balochistan’s progress depends on public participation, tribal harmony, and continuity of government policies. He stressed the importance of empowering women, youth, and the fishing community economically.
Chief Minister Bugti stated that the provincial government is accelerating development projects across all districts, with special focus on Gwadar. He emphasized the need to steer youth away from violence by promoting education and constructive opportunities.
The Corps Commander Quetta, Lt Gen Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan, reaffirmed that security forces are taking all necessary measures to ensure peace and safeguard development initiatives, especially in Gwadar and the Makran region, to support projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Participants also stressed promoting Gwadar as a tourist destination and highlighted the importance of resolving tribal disputes through the traditional jirga system to maintain harmony and stability.
At the conclusion, attendees pledged to further strengthen cooperation among all stakeholders to transform Gwadar into a peaceful, developed, and globally recognized city. The leadership also inaugurated a memorial for police constable Muhammad Khumari Baloch, who was martyred in a دہشتگرد attack in Gwadar on May 11, 2025.
