Ghareeda Farooqui Questions Security Arrangements in Islamabad Amid Postponed Iran-US Talks

ISLAMABAD: Anchorperson Ghareeda Farooqui has raised concerns over the continued strict security arrangements in Islamabad despite the postponement of Iran-US talks.
In a post on social media platform X, she questioned the justification for keeping Islamabad and Rawalpindi under lockdown-like conditions when no final date for the talks has been announced, pending Iran’s response.
She stated that businesses remain closed, transport services are suspended, and daily life has been severely disrupted. According to her, citizens are either confined to their homes or displaced from hotels and hostels.
Farooqui emphasized that peace negotiations or the arrival of any delegation should not turn into hardship for the public. She questioned the logic of maintaining restrictions in the twin cities based on assumptions and uncertainty.

Meanwhile, journalist Amir Ilyas Rana also criticized the situation, stating that much of Islamabad’s business activity has been shut down, including areas like Blue Area. He highlighted long security checks at multiple checkpoints, describing them as humiliating and time-consuming.
He further questioned the effectiveness of the security measures, particularly around Faisal Mosque and Faizabad, suggesting that multiple verification lanes should be introduced to ease public movement.
Rana also raised concerns over the role of authorities, questioning the need for additional restrictions and suggesting that such arrangements have become a burden on citizens and law enforcement personnel alike.
